Originally from Penticton, BC, Tatiana (nee Semenoff) Nahorniak trained passionately in all genres of dance, but her heart has always been with ballet. Although she loved performing, Tatiana has always enjoyed teaching and hoped that a career in dance would lead her to do just that. Discovering the newly introduced ballet program offered by the University of Calgary and in association with the prestigious School of Alberta Ballet, Tatiana decided to abandon her studies in International Relations to follow her heart and study dance. Immediately after receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance (emphasis Ballet) in 2003, she began her career as an instructor and worked to earn her Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Certification. Since then, Tatiana has had the privilege of working at numerous studios throughout Calgary and Edmonton, training with and teaching alongside some of Alberta’s most renowned ballet pedagogues. But she has found her home of 10 years at Boundless Dance Studio in Calgary, successfully entering students into RAD exams and winning numerous awards for her choreography. She is currently enjoying a new role as RAD mentor, guiding young teachers who seek to achieve their own ballet teacher certification. Her mission as an instructor is to make her students love coming to ballet class by creating an expressive environment. She wishes to instill, in each dancer, an understanding and respect of the fundamental discipline necessary in ballet and, in so doing, hopes that each dancer may fall in love with its ethereal beauty as she has. Tatiana welcomes the opportunity of returning to the Okanagan to teach and choreograph, allowing her to stay connected to her beloved hometown. She would like to express her gratitude to Michael Meakin, her own ballet instructor and now mentor, for the opportunity of working with Dance Oasis Studios.
